Project Writing

Greetings Scholars,

I have given up on elaborate content schedules. The past couple of years, I have been trying to work out a regular content creation routine and posting schedule. The few souls following me online already know this has not worked. Life will get in the way, or my mental illnesses will decide to rob me of my motivation that week. I have also found I am too squirrel-like. Just looking at the various platforms I write on, you can see how varied my interests are. I go through moods. One week, I wanna dive into the rise of the Aztecs, then the next week I am examining the Nordic myths of Ragnarök. I will create a schedule and select topics to research and write about that I will be excited about, but by the time I get to them a few weeks later, my interest has fizzled. I also found myself sacrificing quality for speed, trying to meet self-imposed deadlines.

I felt like I was failing, as many advice columns I read online stressed that regular posting was a necessity. However, I eventually had to recognize that my current path was hurting my writing. So I have moved to what I call project writing.

Rather than planning out a series of content and then going back and creating it I am planning to work by topic. I will spend time working on a singular idea creating the articles, essays, short stories, and vidcast for it then, once everything is edited and ready I will schedule/post the content. This will allow more flexibility in my schedule (especially since I am returning to school) and give me time to ensure the final product is at its best. The ultimate goal is to have a huge project catalog and as I set up the next month’s content to just plug finished projects into designated sports.

As I switch to this style of content creation, there will be a drop in content for a few months. By the end of the year, however, I aim to have a semi-steady stream of content on all my platforms.
