Greetings Scholars,
Today is a day of firsts. I am sharing my first book update for the first book I am writing. I dreamed of writing books since I was a child, and I am both exhilarated and terrified to make this attempt.
The idea for this book is one I had been working on and sitting on for a handful of years. I got lost in a trap of overpreparedness, wanting all the worldbuilding done and the outline perfect before writing. I realized that I was just procrastinating and that I would never be done; thus, I am biting the proverbial bullet and sitting down to write. At this moment, not much is written aside from the opening of the book, but the goal is to finish the first draft by the end of this year.
The book I am writing is a retelling of the fairytale Snow White. I have taken to describe it as a story about trauma in the guise of a fairy tale. I wanted to take one of the fairytales I grew up with and add more details of realism in the characters and events, and more cultural influence in the setting, world, and characters in the story. I originally tried to fit the whole story into one book, but early on realized there were two distinct arcs and too much to fit into one book. Thus, this first book will be part one of a duology.
The first book will focus on Snow escaping her imprisonment by her stepmother, fleeing the kingdom, and finding herself among the lands of the fae and eventually with a brotherhood of dwarves. There, she finds not only sanctuary but a chance to find her spirit and courage once again. This is put to the test when her new home is threated and she must defend it alongside her new brothers.
I am so excited to finally get this idea out of my head and onto the page. Despite being so early in the writing process of this book, I wanted to detail my journey online as a way to keep myself honest. I am hoping that posting book updates every few months will motivate me to keep writing so I have something new to share with you.
I ask you all wish me luck as I start this journey.
